Director of Human Resources

Position Description

Department: Operations
Reports to: Chief Financial Officer
Work Schedule: 40 hours/week
Office Location: Gettysburg or Philadelphia
Travel: 20-30% between campuses

Summary of Responsibilities

Responsible for the smooth operation of the seminary’s human resource activities. Works in tandem with and provides counsel to the seminary administration on all human resource decisions and issues.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Other duties may be assigned)

  • Oversee entire seminary administrative staff in tandem with department directors
  • Coordinates inter-departmental administrative functions
  • Supervises receptionists and ensures positive function of the seminary’s front desks
  • Provides leadership in developing a culture that enables faculty and staff to perform in accordance with the seminary’s mission, vision, and identity
  • Directs overall human resources functions of the seminary, including hiring, terminations, and developing salary and benefit packages
  • Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal employment laws and regulations
  • Directs annual review process for all seminary staff
  • Maintains employee personnel files
  • Address and correct findings from human resource audit
  • Liaison with seminary human resources legal counsel
  • Works in tandem with the Academic Dean on faculty appointments and employment issues
  • Oversees and updates the seminary staff, faculty, and student handbooks 
  • Oversees orientation and training of new employees and encourages continuing education and professional development of existing employees
  • Special Projects as assigned by the CFO

Knowledge and Abilities

  • Strong time management and multi-tasking skills, highly organized and efficient
  • Maintains confidentiality
  • Develops positive working relationships at all levels of the seminary
  • Comprehensive knowledge of human resource systems and best practices
  • In-depth knowledge of employment law
  • Excellent listening, negotiation, and presentation skills
  • Proven work experience managing human resource issues

Qualifications

  • Shares belief and excitement in ULS’s mission, vision, and identity
  • College graduate (Master’s Preferred)
  • 10 years human resources professional experience
  • Preferred experience in a seminary setting
  • SPHR designation will receive special consideration (but is not required)
