A message from President R. Guy Erwin:
Blessings. I’m reaching out today in the hopes you’ll share in our heartfelt gratitude for Dean Jayakiran Sebastian’s leadership and commitment over the past 12 years at United Lutheran Seminary. As Dean Sebastian embarks on a well-deserved sabbatical, we wish him a period of productive rest and renewal. We eagerly anticipate his return to teaching in the fall of 2025, where he will continue to inspire and educate future leaders of the church. We also look forward to welcoming incoming Dean Teresa Smallwood – you can read more about her new role.
In Dr. Sebastian’s own words: "We continue the journey of faithfulness, openness, sensitivity, and courage, as we confront the tribulations of these fraught times, recognizing that with God's eye upon us, we will be amply instructed and taught, and reflect this in our journey of teaching and instruction at the seminary."
Your continued support enables us to uphold our commitment to excellence in theological education. As we honor Dean Sebastian’s legacy, we invite you to make a gift in his honor.
Thank you for your steadfast support and generosity.
With sincere gratitude,
Rev. R. Guy Erwin, Ph.D.
President, Ministerium of Pennsylvania Chair and Professor of Reformation Studies
Bishop Emeritus, Southwest California Synod, ELCA
