Faculty Position in Old Testament / Hebrew Bible

United Lutheran Seminary (ULS.edu) seeks applicants for a tenure-track faculty position in biblical studies, with an emphasis in Old Testament / Hebrew Bible. The appointment is open in rank. This appointment is for a three-year contract, with a review to determine permanency of employment to be conducted in the fall of the second year.

Candidates who apply should:

• Have a Ph.D. in the field of the Hebrew Bible,

• Be committed to the mission of this school as an institution of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) together with ecumenical and multicultural commitments,

• Demonstrate a mastery of Hebrew and strong knowledge of Greek,

• Show an ability to articulate the theological content of the biblical canon within the context of the Christian faith,

• Show enthusiasm for collegial sharing in planning, teaching, and evaluating courses,

• Have an openness to learning and utilizing technology in the classroom and online teaching, e.g., Zoom, Canvas (LMS), and Accordance Bible software.

• In addition to Old Testament courses, the candidate should have the ability to teach introductory New Testament courses if needed.

The successful candidate should be prepared to:

• Offer five courses per year in a variety of degree programs [MDiv, MA, STM, and DMin] including online, hybrid and intensive courses,

• Advise students,

• Participate in committee work,

• Participate in the life of the seminary community,

• Participate in continuing education for pastors, lay professionals, and laity,

• Engage in research and publication in the field of Old Testament studies.

• In addition, United Lutheran Seminary has campuses in Gettysburg and Philadelphia, and therefore occasional travel and teaching between the two campuses is expected.
