Checking in with Clergy Colleagues of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan and the Holy Land
For most Americans, the war in Gaza does not cause immediate concern. As is often the case, we say a prayer and
then continue about our lives, not realizing that the political alliance between the United States and Israel has direct and
dire consequences to the Christian community struggling to thrive in the Holy Land.
The Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan and the Holy Land is a member church of the Lutheran World Federation with six
congregations and a private school system that provides a superlative educational experience for both Christian and
Muslim Palestinians. The school curriculum includes teaching non-violent resistance to the military occupation of
their homeland and the daily discrimination which challenges their safety and well-being from day to day.
