Preaching with Power 2025: Rev. Andrea L. Walker

Rev. Dr. Andrea L Walker currently serves as pastor of the historic 180-year-old congregation, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in DC. Before her current call Andrea served from 2012- 2020 as ELCA (Evangelical Lutheran Church in America) Global Mission Area Director for Madagascar, West and Central Africa. In that capacity, she supervised missionary personnel, facilitated programs of teaching, and managed the budget and projects for the ELCA in ten countries on the Continent of Africa.  

Rev. Walker served from 2003 – 2006 as associate pastor and 2006- 2012, as senior pastor of St. John’s Summit, New Jersey a traditional suburban congregation where she trained 5 pastoral interns. Her first call from 2000- 2003, at St. John’s in the Bronx, New York an urban African American congregation.

She graduated from Georgia State University with a BA in History; she attended the Interdenominational Theological Center in Atlanta and received her M.Div. in 1999 and Doctor of Ministry in 2007 from the Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago. Her discipline is preaching, and her doctoral thesis is entitled “A Place at the Table: An African American Lutheran Preaching from Margins to Mainstream.”  

Rev. Dr. Walker was privileged to teach a Preaching Intensive for United Lutheran Seminary in 2023. She combined her love for preaching and her desire to mentor and train pastors.

She is the mother of forty-five-year-old son, Jawon Vincent Walker, and proud grandmother of an eighteen-year-old grandson Jawon William Walker who both live in Delaware.
