Lori holds a B.A. in Religion and German from Lebanon Valley College, certificates in Education and English from Albright College, an M.A. and (ABD) from the University of Pennsylvania in Germanic Languages and Literatures with primary research and publications in literature and cultural studies of science, an M.Div. from Drew Theological Seminary, and a D. Min. from Portland Seminary in Semiotics, Church, and Culture. She plans to defend her Ph.D. dissertation in the upcoming year. She has additionally taken coursework in Medieval Studies and Literary Theory from Rutgers University, Fiction studies from Temple University, and Theological studies at the Universität Marburg in Germany.
Dr. Wagner held prior positions as an Assistant Professor of English and German and as a senior university administrator, as well as teaching adjunctly for many years across a variety of disciplines. In recent years, she has served as a doctoral advisor for students at Portland Seminary, as well as an adjunct professor at Wesley Seminary (Evangelism, UM History, Theology, and Polity, and Biblical Studies), Portland Seminary (Preaching), and Lancaster Theological Seminary (Evangelism).
Dr. Wagner has served in pastoral positions (full time, parttime, and as a church consultant) for 26 years (16 in appointed positions within the UMC) and currently serves in a part-time capacity as Pastor of St. James UCC in Havertown, PA. She additionally served one year as a Chaplain at Reading Hospital and another as a Hospice Chaplain for Compassus Hospice. Before assuming her position at ULS, she served for several years in a full-time capacity as Theological Content and Acquisitions Editor for the Christian publishing company, Invite Press.
Lori is a featured weekly writer for sermons.com and former content creator and writer for preachthestory.com. In addition to prior publications in the field of science and literature, her current publications include The Story Lectionary (a two-year lectionary), The Seraph Seal (novel), Around the Table with Jesus (Bible Study), and Slant: ReVisioning Scripture (due out in 2024).
Her primary interests include intersections between psychology and scripture, metaphorical preaching, evangelism, and 21stcentury church and culture. She is currently working on a second novel, The Lucifer Complex, and a second non-fiction title, The Sticking Point. She looks forward to getting to know our graduate students and to serving within the ULS community.
