ULS held its first Matriculation Day on August 24 to welcome incoming and returning students. It was a wonderful day of fellowship and an opportunity to celebrate the upcoming semester. Students from both campuses as well as our Distributed Learning community, joined faculty and staff in Philadelphia for an information session organized by Student Government, a "pinning ceremony" for new students led by President R. Guy Erwin and Dean Teresa Smallwood, a luncheon, worship and campus and library tours. Pictured here: Some of the incoming fall students. The annual Urban Theological Institute Lecture and Worship was held on the Philadelphia campus on September 17. The Rev. Dr. Willie Dwayne Francois III (pictured here), Senior Pastor of Mount Zion Baptist Church of Pleasantville, NJ, presented the lecture, "The Church and Christian Nationalism," followed by evening worship. The Urban Theological Institute at ULSis celebrating its 44th anniversary.

Our Fall Convocation, also on the Philadelphia campus, took place on September 18 and featured "Beyond the Binary with Rev. Chris and Jamie Bruesehoff," who shared their own personal experience as parents of a transgender child. Jamie (pictured here) signed copies of her book, Raising Kids beyond the Binary: Celebrating God’s Transgender and Gender-Diverse Children

ULS WELCOMES FALL 2024 PH.D. COHORT - Dean Teresa Smallwood is pleased to introduce the first cohort of students for the Ph.D. in Public Theology and Witness: The Rev. Dr. Lawrence E. Claiborne; and Rev. Joy Gonnerman; The Rev. Mark A. Thompson. Read more about our Ph.D. students.

On the same topic, Vice President Kamala Harris recently appointed the Rev. Jen Butler, a Presbyterian minister and well-known religious advocate, as the new head of faith outreach for the Harris-Walz campaign. Rev. Butler is one of the Senior Fellows in the Ph.D. Program in Public Theology and Witness.

ULS WELCOMES NEW STAFF - ULS welcomes Dr. Lori Wagner as the Director of Graduate Studies.    We also welcome Angelita Dorsey as Director of Educational Technology and Rose Harrell as Director of Human Resources. Welcome to all!

2024 LUTHER COLLOQUY TO CELEBRATE MARTIN LUTHER'S FIRST HYMNBOOK  - Please join us in person on the Gettysburg campus or via livestream for the Annual Luther Colloquy, Monday, October 28. This year's theme is "Celebrating the 500th Anniversary of the Achtliederbuch, Martin Luther's first hymnbook published in 1524. Dr. Robert Leaver, Professor Emeritus at Westminster Choir College and Dr. Craig Atwood, Professor Emeritus at Moravian Theological Seminary, will be the speakers.
